- I love to show off our
puppies. However, please understand that the purpose of the puppy
page is not to SELL our puppies.
- Feel free to contact us
by email and we will be happy to give you any information you would like
on the puppies. Email inquiries are wonderful, but before we will
consider you as a potential buyer, we would like to talk to you on the
phone at the very least, and would prefer to meet you in person.

- Here are a few important things you should know about
Phi-Vestavia puppies:
- Puppies are sold only to pre-qualified (screened) purchasers.
- All puppy buyers are required to fill out a questionnaire.
- General health is guaranteed.
- Other guarantees (inherited defects and temperament) are stated in
our Puppy Contract.
- Puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks and matched with purchasers
whose lifestyles and desires are compatible with the test results.
- All puppies are registered with the AKC by the breeders.
- Pet puppies are sold on Limited Registration -- without exception.
- Pet puppies are required to be altered--no exceptions.
- Phi-Vestavia pet puppies are $900 and up. The only exception is for preexisting
health defects. Show puppies can cost considerably more.
- Deposits are taken only after puppies are actually born. Your puppy
is then considered "sold" and other buyers will be placed on
a waiting list for a future litter or referred elsewhere. For this reason,
deposits are non-refundable unless the puppy is not available for delivery.
- Further details are in our Puppy Contract.
Here are some other important facts about Phi-Vestavia
puppies:
We pride ourselves on the quality of our puppies.
- All parents are top show quality animals or they are not included in
our breeding program.
- All breeding stock is x-rayed for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye
checked, DNA tested for PRA, and thyroid tested.
- Puppies are guaranteed for health, inherited defects and temperament
defects.
Temperament is the primary consideration in our breeding program.
- Pregnant dogs are strictly monitored throughout their pregnancy.
- Puppies are born in my bedroom and handled constantly from birth.
- Early Socialization techniques begin
at 3 days of age.
- When the puppies are older, they are moved to our living room and remain
in the *middle* of our busy house.
- All puppies are given equal time and attention -- whether they are
pet or show quality.
We carefully rear the puppies in an enriched environment to be
well-adjusted adults.
- Our puppies have a special pen in the house that is filled with stimulating
toys.
- The puppy's play yard has many obstacles for the puppies to climb over,
crawl under and run through.
- The puppies are weaned according to the mother's schedule, not mine.
- Adults and puppies are allowed to interact and play. This teaches
the puppies to be social with other animals as they grow.
- The puppies are given separate cages at 7-9 weeks. From this time
on, the puppies eat and sleep separately. This encourages independence
and autonomy.
- Housebreaking begins as early as 6 weeks. Puppies are usually
fully housebroken by 4 months of age.
- Car trips begin at 6 weeks of age. The puppies learn to be comfortable
in a cage in the car.
- Toenail trimming begins at 3 days of age. Puppies are bathed
on a regular schedule.
All our dogs are beloved house pets and members of our family.
- Whether a puppy is to be a pet or a show dog, we require that they
be house pets and not kennel-dogs.
- We encourage early socialization and obedience training.
We are responsible for all puppies produced
for their entire life.
If you think you would like to be considered for one of our puppies,
please feel free to contact us. We are happy to provide references.
We would like you to provide references, too.

Early Socialization
SUPER TEMPERAMENTS AND TRAINING BEGINS EARLY:
The stimulation described below will give the puppies more tolerance
to stress, improve the heart, immune system and adrenaline flow. This will
effect the puppy for life. This early stimulation is done daily from day
3 through day 16 of puppies' new life.
- Rub a Q-Tip on the pad of the feet (tickling effect).
- Hold puppy with the head upright and tail down.
- Reverse direction of the puppy with tail up.
- Hold puppy up off the floor in a level position.
- Put the puppies' feet down on a really cold damp towel. You could stroke
each foot once or twice with an ice cube.
Do Each For A Maximum Of 4 To 5 Seconds Daily. (From lecture by Dr.
C. Battaglia)
*We have been doing this with each litter for the past 15 years. It
works!! Our dogs are known for their super temperaments.
