Well, the 1998 show season is over.  We are proud to have done well at the National and finished several new champions.  We didn't have any puppies, so next year we'll probably plan at least one or two extra litters.  Congratulations to everyone who showed and did well with our dogs.  A special thank you to Kim Fitzgerald who showed our dogs to perfection.  Kim is a very capable handler who has a way with our silly Cardigans.

The year began with a visit from Nanette Green (Cambrian) and Jan West (Llandaf) of Australia.  These ladies were gracious enough to take lots of pictures of the dogs (even though it was pouring outside).  After visiting me, they went on to the So. California Specialty (which I had to miss for the first time in many years), then the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas.  I enjoyed their company tremendously.  I understand the rest of their trip was very enjoyable.  Now I have to go and visit them in Australia!

Credit's parents are Ch. Sisterwood's Ambler and Ch. Phi-Vestavia Good Gracious (Gloria).  Her first show was the National Specialty, and she only made it by 1 day!  She was joined there by her siblings, Corey (Phi-Vestavia Maine Man) owned by Karen Lyons and Fiona (Phi-Vestavia Its Me, Fiona) owned by Helen Turin.   Read more about the terrible threesome's antics at the National!

This is Credit, Phi-Vestavia Midnight Madness.  She is co-owned and co-bred with Kim Fitzgerald, Gloria's long-suffering handler.

Here is a picture of a grown-up Credit.  She is shown winning a 5 point major under Australian judge Val Jackson.  Credit finished the year with 9 points and both majors.  She really loves showing and we look forward to finishing her championship next year.

News Flash -- Corey and Fiona are Champions!!!  Both finished with extra majors and Group Placements from the classes.  Congratulations to the proud owners.
Here is Corey, placing third in the Herding Group at 9 months.  He is growing up to be a handsome man.  He also has another group placement his first time as a special in the group ring.  Congratulations to Corey's owner-handler, Karen Lyons.

Here is the spot for Fiona's group placing picture.  Maybe Helen or Kim will let me scan it in, at least (hint, hint, hint).

Introducing . . .

Ch. Phi-Vestavia Katie 'N the Morn

Katie is owned by Bev Johnson of Western Pennsylvania.  She streaked to her championship as a 9 month-old puppy.  Pictured at left is Katie taking a 4 point major under Stephanie Hedgepath at Old Dominion.  She also took another 4 point major at Baltimore the next day.

Katie is from the July '97 litter.

And Our Newest Acquisition . . .

Ch. * Shadowalk Vashon Jettsetter

Another daughter of  Phi-Vestavia Inkling, Jett was bred by, and is co-owned by Don and Susan Lassila.  She came to us with 9 points and her first major.  Jett added her last points by going WB, BOW, Best of Breed and Group 2 at the CWCCA supported Upper Potomac Valley Kennel Club show.  We are very proud of our girl!

Thank you to Don & Susan for letting Jett come to live with us.  Also thanks to Gayle Petrick and Kim Fitzgerald for helping show Jett, and many thanks to Steve and Marieann Gladstone for rewarding her.

Our Newest Showgirl  . . .

Phi-Vestavia Kalypso

Kallie is shown winning a four point major at her first show in Queens, New York (beautiful Corona Park -- site of the finale of the movie, Men in Black).  Kallie will be shown sparingly while she gets ring training and increases her confidence.  She is a very pretty, sound and spirited young lady.

Kallie is from the July' 97 litter by Phi-Vestavia Inkling and Ch. Phi-Vestavia Embers of Xtacee.

And Here's Sparky . . .

Melnibone Belrix

Sparky is another Inky son.  He was bred by Carolyn and Richard Huff and is out of Ch. Windshure's Carrie Nation.  After being handled by Marla Gardner to 6 points, Sparky came home and finished the year with 11 points and both majors.  He also won Best in Sweepstakes at the Soaring Gull CWCCA supported show.

Sparky is a wonderful, fun-loving dog.  He gets along with all the other dogs, never has a bad day and loves everyone and everything.  He is a delight to be around.  In the ring, he sometimes has a little TOO much fun, but he is learning to show right and the wins are following right along.

And the Highlight of the Year . . .

Gloria goes Best of Breed at the third CWCCWR Specialty!!

Thank you to Gayle Garvin for this lovely win.
Other highlights of this specialty include:  Phi-Vestavia It's Me, Fiona going Best in Sweepstakes
Phi-Vestavia Trouble in Chaos going Reserve Winners Bitch
Percy's son, Chimera Caffrey going Winners Dog and Award of Merit

Happy 9th birthday to Percy.  Since Jan and Nan were watching, he was on his best behavior and didn't get onto the dining room table.  He is shown here sleeping on the table bench -- the next best thing!  Still looks guilty, though.

Look ma -- not one grey hair, yet!

What can I say?  This is what happens when you have a mother who loves her puppies so much, she still wants to nurse them at 8 weeks.  Even Percy can't believe it!  Actually, I think Gloria was showing off for Nan and Jan.

Thats all for right now.  Look for the 1999 Show Happenings page soon.
