Announcements

1. The President requested that any problems that members may have with any aspect of the club should be brought to the attention of the board and not be aired to the general public outside of the club.

2. The Recording Secretary stated that the minutes will be posted to the club website (when it is completed) and will also be distributed to the members at each meeting.

Previous Minutes

1. The minutes of the December 14, 1997, meeting were approved as corrected.

Officer Reports

1. Treasurer: Donna Smith opened the CCWCC account with Atlantic Fleet credit union in Norfolk, VA. After purchasing checks, the club has a total of $114.53. We have a tax identification number as well as the forms needed to establish the CCWCC as a non-profit organization.

Discussion

1. The CCWCC needs to build up its monetary assets through fund-raising activities. A ways- and-means committee was established with Peter Wolf as chair. Some ideas were to charge a buck-a-brag thru the newsletter or at meetings, off-set the costs of our newsletter by being underwritten by a dog-related company or through advertising, and the possibility of manufacturing and selling larger than average brown bags.

2. The members approved date changes in Article IV of the bylaws and constitution. Also, Article VI, section 2 charges, was amended to reflect a deposit of $50.00 to bring charges against another member. However, the club could not vote on the constitution and bylaws until further amendments were made. One is the numbering of Article II, it skips from Section 3 to Section 5. The other point of interest is the defining of the various memberships. A section will be added that defines what household, single, junior, and associate memberships entail. The club agreed that each active and non-associate member age 18 and above has the right to vote. Active member is defined as "attending at least 2 meetings a year", also, members are encouraged to actively participate in club functions throughout the year. Any member who cannot make the required 2 meetings may be granted a waiver from the board.

3. A nominating committee was established with Nancy Jo Warczak as chair and Jan Prichard and Steven Vagle as members. Anyone who would like to be nominated should send their resume to Nancy Jo.

4. Our newsletter needs a new name. Cardi Tales has long been used by another Cardigan club. Some suggestions are: Potomac View, Chesapeake View, Cardi Sails and Cardi Clipper. Other ideas will be solicited through the next club newsletter. For now, the club will just use CCWCC Newsletter.

5. The deadline for submission to the newsletter is May 15th. Articles and other information may be submitted to Brett Skipper by phone, fax, e-mail or regular mail. The preferred method is through e-mail.

6. An ad hoc committee was formed to discuss what kinds of information and advertisements are appropriate for the newsletter. Brett Skipper will work with the ways-and-means committee on this and will have a report for the next meeting.

7. An AKC club recognition committee was formed with Sue. N. Whaley and Susan Francis-Haughton as members.

8. Supported show sites and dates were discussed. Requirements include a nice site, good time of year, obedience entries, and a club that will show us some support. The members agreed to support the Tidewater Kennel Club show in Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday October 31, 1998. Donna Smith agreed to be the show chairperson.

9. A CWCCA supported herding trial will take place July 31-August 2, 1998, in Dover, DE. Contact Sue Cogger if members want to lend their assistance.

10. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, June 28, 1998, at the home of Aggie de la Garza near Middleburg, VA at 10:00 am. Refreshments for the picnic will be coordinated by Shirley Hobbs and activities will be coordinated by Aggie. Cardigans are welcome! There will be agility, conformation, obedience, and dancing demonstrations. Directions will be published in the newsletter.

11. The meeting adjourned at 3:25 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Susan Francis-Haughton Temporary Recording Secretary Chesapeake Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club
