Announcements

1. Susan Francis-Haughton encouraged everyone to attend the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Potomac=s introduction to herding program on Saturday, October 17, 1998 at the Carroll County Agricultural Centre in Westminster, MD. Copies of the program were distributed to interested members.

Previous Minutes

1. The minutes of the June 28, 1998, meeting were approved with revision.

2. The sole revision being Pam Allen does not want to be chairperson of the supported show committee. Therefore, Sherry Caldwell and Cathy Ochs-Cline were made co-chairs (subject to their acceptance). Pam agreed to remain on the committee.

Officer Reports

1. Newsletter : No report.

2. Membership : No report.

3. Treasurer : In the absence of the treasurer at this meeting, the president stated that we had an approximate balance of $509.00. After the meeting, the treasurer e-mailed the correct figures. The actual balance of our account is $579.88. The previous balance in June was $478.00.

Committee Reports

1. AKC Club Recognition : Susan Francis-Haughton read aloud the definitions of the different types of matches from information obtained from the AKC website. She suggested that we hold our first breed fun match in the spring.

2. Ways and Means : Peter Wolf reported that the idea of selling plastic newspaper bags (to be used to clean up after one=s dog) is dependent on the donation of the bags by the newspaper companies. Their donation is further dependent on our club receiving 501(c)3 status as well as Aselling@ the idea that we are promoting environmental responsibility by cleaning up after our dogs in public areas. Application for incorporation and 501(c)3 status will take approximately forty-five days to six months and is currently being worked-on by Pam Allen. Rachel Doggett announced that we will raise some money for the club by holding a silent auction of goods and services at our December meeting. She welcomes any and all donations and said that if we do not have anything to donate, we should certainly place bids.

3. Supported Show : Pam Allen stated that her committee looked at sites with the idea being to choose a pleasant long-term site where we may eventually have our regional specialty show. We did not want to conflict with other cardigan club specialty dates so the committee suggested mid-September to late-October. No indoor site was deemed appropriate for our purposes. The choices came down to the Old Dominion show or the Middleburg show. The Middleburg show site is very pretty and the members agreed that the Saturday of this show in mid-October will meet our requirements. Cathy Ochs-Cline will look into how we can choose our own judge. We will also need to form a trophy committee.

4. Nominating : Nancy Jo Warczak thanked her committee for their work in providing the club an excellent slate of candidates. Debbie Moore for President, Ed Warczak for Vice President, Nancy Meinel for Treasurer, Cathy Ochs-Cline for Corresponding Secretary, Susan Francis-Haughton for Recording Secretary, and Sherry Caldwell and Shirley Hobbes as members of the Board. The members made no further nominations. Write-in candidates can be made on the ballot. You must be present and a full member over the age of 18 at our December meeting, as well as meet the requirement of having attended two meetings, in order to vote at our December meeting.

Unfinished Business

1. The constitution and bylaws are still being revised but will be ready to vote on at our December meeting. Two provisions were voted on and passed by the members at this meeting. No two members from the same household may hold positions on the board at the same time and positions will be held for two years, not one. Thus, elections will be held every other December.

New Business

1. We need ideas for presentations at future club meetings. One possible idea is for a local hearing-impaired lady who owns a hearing dog cardigan bred by a member of our club, come and speak to us about her dog and its training.

2. Ed Warczak suggested that we advertise and publish information about our club in the local club association newsletter in Virginia.

3. The DelVal club will hold a sanctioned B match on October 4, 1998.

4. We will publish the unapproved minutes in the CARDI CLIPPER.

5. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, December 13, 1998, at the home of Susan Francis-Haughton and Tom Haughton at 12:00. Unfortunately, cardigans must stay at home, however, family members and significant others of club members are invited to attend this festive meeting. There will be voting, committee meetings, opportunities to purchase quality items and services at a silent auction, music, laughter, and delicious home-made lasagna! Please co-ordinate your food contributions with Pam Allen.

6. The meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Francis-Haughton
